NC Families United & The Life Center Church Emergency Storm Relief Efforts

As Storm Helene brings devastation to our communities, we are launching an emergency storm relief effort to collect essential items and donations to support families in need. Together we will be distributing these supplies to ensure that no one is left behind during this critical time.
Warm Hugs for Cold Nights

In North Carolina, over 9,000 people experience homelessness on any given night. As cold weather approaches, it's essential to help those most vulnerable to harsh winter conditions, which can be life-threatening for people living unsheltered. To support our community, we’re launching "Warm Hugs for Cold Nights" a sleeping bag drive to collect and distribute sleeping bags before the temperatures drop. Hypothermia risk significantly increases for the homeless, with 700 deaths annually in the U.S. due to cold exposure.
OJJDP Second Chance Act Grantee

North Carolina Families United (NCFamU) is honored to receive the OJJDP FY24 Second Chance Act grant to implement their new program "STARR (Start Talking About Rebuilding Relationships)" STARR focuses on addressing the complex challenges faced by incarcerated parents and their families, aiming to reduce the negative impacts of parental incarceration. Through this program, NCFamU will work to rebuild relationships and strengthen family bonds across North Carolina’s communities.
NC Releases Final $67.5M in Child Care Stabilization Grants to Support Early Education Centers

NCDHHS is releasing $67.5 million in stopgap funding to support North Carolina’s early childhood education and child care centers. This marks the final payment of the Child Care Stabilization Grants, which started in 2021 and have been crucial for keeping centers open and increasing teacher pay. The General Assembly extended the grants through December 31, 2024, though at a lower funding level. Read more in the full article.
NCDHHS Unveils Transformative Behavioral Health Report

During Suicide Prevention Week, NCDHHS released "Transforming North Carolina’s Behavioral Health System: Investing in a System That Delivers Whole-Person Care". The report outlines efforts to revamp the state’s behavioral health system, emphasizing high-quality, equitable care accessible within communities. This strategy seeks to expand urgent care and crisis services, ensuring people get the support they need when and where they need it.

Statewide Family Network Grantee

North Carolina Families United (NCFamU) is thrilled to be awarded the SAMHSA Statewide Family Network Grant to continue our work for the upcoming project term 09/30/2024 to 09/29/2027! With this support, NCFamU will continue enhancing mental health services for families raising children with Significant Emotional Disturbances (SED) or Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (COD), as well as those with incarcerated parents. Exciting News from NCDHHS

NCDHHS just announced an exciting $15 million investment to launch nine new behavioral health urgent care centers across North Carolina! This two-year plan will boost the state's capacity by nearly 50%, bringing faster, specialized care to more people in need. These centers will help address mental health and substance use challenges, reducing pressure on emergency rooms and offering a crucial lifeline to individuals across the state.
